Sell Square Gift Cards

Create and sell digital Square gift cards through your WooCommerce store.

Enable customers to purchase digital gift cards that can be redeemed at your Square POS or online store.

Overview

Square gift cards purchased through WooCommerce:

  • Are delivered digitally via email
  • Can be redeemed in-store at Square POS
  • Can be redeemed online during checkout
  • Track balances automatically in Square

Step 1: Create a Gift Card Product

  1. In WordPress, go to Products > Add New
  2. Enter a product title (e.g., "Gift Card")
  3. Scroll to the Product Data section
  4. Select Square Gift Card from the product type dropdown

Step 2: Configure Pricing

Choose from three pricing options:

Set a single, specific amount for the gift card.

Example: $50 gift card only

Best for simple offerings or promotional gift cards.

Step 3: Add Product Details

  1. Write a compelling product description
  2. Upload a featured image for the gift card
  3. Optionally add a product gallery

Step 4: Publish and Test

  1. Click Publish to make the product live
  2. Click View Product to see the storefront display
  3. Complete a test purchase to verify:
    • Gift card email is delivered
    • Card appears in Square Dashboard
    • Balance is correct

Gift Card Delivery

When a customer purchases a gift card:

  1. Payment is processed through Square
  2. Square generates a unique gift card number
  3. Recipient receives an email with:
    • Gift card number
    • Current balance
    • Redemption instructions

Redemption Options

Online (WooCommerce)

Customers enter the gift card number at checkout to apply the balance.

In-Store (Square POS)

Staff can scan or manually enter the gift card number at the Square terminal.

Balance Tracking

All transactions—online and in-store—are tracked in Square. Customers can check their balance through your store or Square's gift card balance checker.

Troubleshooting

Gift card email not received

  • Check customer's spam folder
  • Verify email address was entered correctly
  • Confirm Square email settings are configured

Card not appearing in Square

  • Allow a few minutes for sync
  • Check your Square Dashboard under Gift Cards
  • Verify the order completed successfully

Balance issues

  • Confirm the purchase was processed
  • Check for partial redemptions
  • Review transaction history in Square Dashboard
