How to setup Square Modifiers with WooCommerce

Welcome! This guide will help you set up Square options to work with WooCommerce product add-ons using the SquareSync for Woo plugin. Follow the steps below to configure your settings and map Square modifiers to WooCommerce product add-ons.

1. Overview of Product Add-Ons with Square Modifiers #

Square modifiers allow you to add options or variations for your products within the Square system, like toppings for a pizza or extra customization options. Similarly, WooCommerce product add-ons let you add customization options for products in your online store, allowing customers to personalize their orders.

With SquareSync for Woo, you can link these two systems so that product add-ons in WooCommerce match your Square modifiers. This ensures that options selected by customers (such as extra toppings or special features) remain consistent across both platforms. For example, if you offer options like “cheese,” “pepperoni,” or “jalapeños” for a hamburger in Square, you can set up matching add-ons in WooCommerce so that every order reflects these choices accurately in both Square and WooCommerce.

This setup is especially useful for businesses that manage both in-store (Square) and online (WooCommerce) sales, as it helps ensure that options are seamlessly integrated and tracked across both platforms.

2. Access SquareSync for Woo Modifier Settings #

  1. Go to SquareSync for Woo > Settings > Modifiers.
  2. This section pulls in your existing Square modifiers, allowing you to map them to WooCommerce’s meta keys.

3. Using the SquareSync Tools for Meta Key Mapping #

To determine which values to input into the meta key fields:

  1. Go to Tools > SquareSync for Woo.
  2. Check the Enable Meta Display option and save your settings.
  3. This option will add extra data to your orders, helping identify the correct values for each modifier.

4. Locate Modifier Data from WooCommerce Orders #

  1. Go to your WooCommerce Orders page.
  2. Find an order with a product add-on.
  3. Open the order and locate the section with extra data. Here, you’ll find the key and meta field values to use in the settings page.

5. Input Key and Values in Modifier Settings #

  1. Copy the key (e.g., “extras”) and paste it into the Key field in the SquareSync settings.
  2. Under Meta Values, copy the names of each modifier exactly as they appear in the order details (e.g., “cheese,” “pepperoni,” etc.).
    • Tip: If your order doesn’t contain all modifiers, create another order with all options selected. Alternatively, check other orders to find the missing values.

Note: It’s essential to copy these values exactly to avoid any sync issues.

6. Ensure Price Matching #

To avoid conflicts, make sure the price of each add-on in WooCommerce matches exactly with its Square counterpart. Mismatched prices can lead to sync issues.

7. Save Your Settings #

  1. After filling in the key, values, and confirming price accuracy, click Save.
  2. Your setup is complete! The next time you create an order, your modifiers should sync as expected.

8. Disable Metadata Display (Optional) #

If desired, return to Tools to turn off the Enable Meta Display setting, as it is no longer needed after initial setup.
